The art of Mehndi has been a long-standing tradition stemming from many ancient cultures, dating as far back as about 5,000 years. Today, it is still used in religious and ritualistic ceremonies and it has gained appreciation in other countries as a beautiful temporary body art form to enjoy at anytime! I’ve noticed that Traditional Mehndi patterns have become a beautiful westernized fashion accessory. I have seen candles, clothing, sandals, and linens, all displaying the traditional designs used for thousands of years in Countries like India, and The Middle East. I love it, ALL!

Historically: The Art of Mehndi is an ancient art used to adorn the body, for ceremonies & used for protection. It also has the special property of cooling the body. It was used by nomadic tribes in their palms and feet to cool themselves after a long days journey through the desert.

Medicinally: The actual proper name for the Henna plant is Lawsonia inermis. Henna is a shrub. It is harvested, ground up and sifted to remove any twigs or stem pieces. Henna has many healing properties, which give it so many reasons to love it! Henna is used as an antiseptic and an astringent. It is often used for bruises and sprains. as well as boils, burns and open wounds. It is used to treat ringworm and headaches, sweaty hands, burning feet and athlete’s foot.

Henna artists blend their henna powder in special recipes with select ingredients to help the plant release it’s dye. Essential oils are then added to intensify the color and aroma of the henna on the body. A sensual experience awaits!

Whatever your reasons might be for being interested in Henna, you are delving into a beautiful art form rich in culture. Enjoy!
